Summer is upon us and Santa Catalina remains a calm Mediterranean
temperature, typical of its paradisiacal atmosphere. However, the summer is
heating up as far as entertainment goes. What can you expect this summer in
Avalon and Two Harbors?
Let’s start with Avalon, the most civilized part of the island, and the one
with the most mainstream attractions. In the summer, they welcome the Annual
Taste Around of Avalon, in which guests can taste delicious foods and drink from
the best restaurants in the area. The Annual Flying Fish Festival is a four-day
event that celebrates the triumphant return of the Catalina Flying Fish. This
is a great family event and has a wide variety of activities.
Over in Two Harbors, guests can look forward to a wine festival, which is
sponsored by the Rotary Club of Avalon as well as Two Harbors Enterprises. The
nice thing about this event is that it benefits local charities. Summer Beach
Bingo is big news all summer long, and locals and tourists are invited to bring
along a beach chair and have fun playing bingo. The Kid’s Fishing Derby is also
hosted in Avalon for most of the summer. Few events are more festive than the
Annual 4th of July Parade, which features a fireworks show and a dinner at the
famous casino ballroom. A BBQ buffet is hard to pass up, especially since no
one likes to cook on a holiday!
August brings the Annual Church Mouse Marlin Invitational event. This is a
non-profit marlin fishing tournament. All participants can rest assured that
proceeds benefit the Catalina youth of tomorrow. Over the past two decades,
over $700,000 has been raised to help children!
Whether you live in Avalon or Two Harbors, or are traveling for the summer,
it’s okay to come join the community for a time of celebration! |
