Catalina Island Needs Your Help

Volunteering on Catalina Island is a worthy cause, and one good option is to offer your time to the Catalina Island Conservancy.

Training is provided on all levels to educate volunteers in the ways of education, conservation and recreation on the island. The plant nursery is located in Middle Ranch. Here you can help the ecology of the island while learning about the native plants. As a volunteer, you'll work to complete different horticulture tasks ranging from germination to nursery maintenance. If a place to stay is an issue the Conservancy offers the Villa Volunteer Package, which includes a stay at the Villa Portofino Hotel.

The Catalina Island Conservancy has other volunteer options, as well. It needs photographers and artists who can capture the islands beauty for publications and the media. Other volunteers are needed to help remove non-native weeds and plants throughout the island. The group also needs volunteers to staff the information booths and greet visitors.

In addition to this, the Conservancy also needs those who are willing to help with non-nature related tasks, such as mailings and administrative duties. There is also the beach clean up once a month where you can enjoy the beauty of the ocean while picking up debris.

You must fill out an application, which you can find online: http://www.catalinaconservancy.org/index.php?s=join&p=volunteer
