What are some fun things to do in Santa Catalina? First and foremost, you
want to sample the wonderful flora and fauna life. This is a paradise of an
island, which is strictly governed by the Conservancy
of Santa Catalina. Its objective is to protect the land and to keep Santa
Catalina looking like beautiful, undeveloped natural habitat.
This explains why an eco-tour is top of the list of things to do. An eco-tour
takes you to the rugged interiors of the island. This is where you are
guaranteed to see the most interesting flora and fauna life. It is not uncommon
to see foxes, bison and exotic birds in the area. Similarly, a discovery tour
takes you close to nature but keeps you at a safe distance. You might even say
that you are kept behind “glass” like a zoo. This time, however, you are the
animal in the cage! Glass
bottom boat tours are tours that take you to the ocean to see free aquatic
life swimming about. You not only see marine life moving, but you take a fish’s
perspective, as you move along with the school.
Of course, it’s not fair to you or the Catalina Gods to come visit the island
without getting your feet wet! Plan on swimming, fishing, snorkeling and scuba
diving while you are here! Casino Point in Avalon is a popular spot for scuba
divers and coincidentally offers the gentlest of waves. When you go scuba
diving, you get even closer to the aquatic life that exists in the ocean. We’re
talking octopus, giant black sea bass and even horn sharks! (Don’t worry, no
full grown sharks in these shallow areas) Lovers Cove is a great place for
snorkeling.
There are plenty of fun activities in Santa Catalina. There are golf
courses, arcades and nightclubs…but
it’s hard to imagine leaving behind the marvelous natural scenery! |
