Island officials have developed a 20 year master community plan titled "Imagine Catalina: A Vision for the Future" that will enhance current tourists attractions.
The community was closely involved in the plan development design process. Meetings were attended by Avalon City officials, business owners, non-profits and citizens. The urban plan directed the future development of Wrigley Memorial & Botanic Garden, the Nature Center and the Conservancy's complex.
Specific projects are being completed in 2012 many will continue to be developed. Highlights of the plan include a new architectural designs for the Conservancy's Eagle's Nest Lodge. Also the Conservancy plans on opening a new Mobile Nature Center it will be staffed by naturalists and provide information to visitors about the floral and fauna.
The Botanic Garden would also have a new nature attraction called the Island Exploration Station. It would include an interactive exhibit area, art and photography. Also there are plans to include a outdoor amphitheater that will provide event space for the community. The Wrigley Memorial would be built up and leveled and made into a circular stage that would include a underground catering kitchen and restrooms. Another highly ambitious plan is to construct a gondola ride to the Divide Road in order for visitors to see a spectacular view of the entire island. |
