Officials with the city of Avalon recently highlighted and recognized the Catalina Island Museum for its past year of unprecedented wins.
The museum was recognized during a recent joint session between the Planning Commission and the City Council of Avalon.
City officials honored the museum in conjunction with National Museum Day.
In the last year, the Catalina Island Museum has received attention for its unique exhibits. The attention has been national in nature and has put a positive spotlight not just on the museum but on Catalina Island and on the city of Avalon as a whole.
The Catalina Island Museum celebrated National Museum Day by offering free admission.
One extremely popular exhibit at the museum that has garnered such positive attention is Before She Was Marilyn: Marilyn Monroe on Catalina Island. The museum also is currently featuring a historical gallery that depicts the beliefs and rituals of the natives of Catalina Island.
The museum is currently working toward a goal of reaching 1,000 members. The museum has seen tremendous growth in the last eight months alone.
