Catalina Island is just a quick ferry ride from Los Angeles and from Hollywood. During the 1930s in Hollywood it was a top spot a favorite getaway of stars like Clark Gable.
The island’s location also made it a natural movie set for the many films created in Hollywood.
The movies feature Catalina Island along with part of Avalon. It has been featured in dozens of movies. One early movie was in the 1920s and called Terror Island. This was a silent film like those of the day. Another silent film was 1924’s Buster Keaton movie called The Navigator. Other films set on Catalina Island have included the likes of Bella Lugosi and Clark Gable.
Santa Catalina Island has also been in movies and TV shows of the present. The close location to Hollywood makes it a natural extension. It’s even been in some soap operas, such as the Bold and the Beautiful, which filmed at the Inn on Mt. Ada, a noted romantic spot on Catalina Island.
