Catalina Island’s famous flying fish are set to be honored again with the return of the 4th Annual Flying Fish Festival from June 205.

The four-day festivities offer family fun and excitement. Every year, from May to September Catalina Island has some visitors - the famed flying fish. This wonderful fish soars out of the water at heights of up to 30 feet. They can glide in the air as far as a quarter of a mile!

The flying fish only stay for a few months out the year and are best seen at night when lured out with lights.

The Flying Fish Festival kicks off on June 2 with the Avalon Taste Around. It’s an opportunity to explore some of Avalon’s best eateries and taste their most finest menu items. The festival activities are abundant throughout the weekend with events and entertainment to celebrate the fantastic flying fish.

Festival highlights include evening Flying Fish Boat Tours aboard the Blanche W, a 98-passenger solid wood vessel built in 1924. It was originally made for the flying fish tours. Other events are a professional sand sculpture creation, a boat building competition, free musical and theatrical entertainment, a waterfront street fair, live touch tanks, kids Fishing Derby, various flying fish and ocean craft activities for kids, the Flying Fish Parade with Gil, the Flying Fish and Much More!

Catalina Island has a Mediterranean charm and crystal clear waters, but it’s located just 22 miles off the coast of Southern California. It’s easily accessible in an hour by boat or 15 minutes by air. Details: www.CatalinaChamber.com.
