When discussing events happening in Santa Catalina Island, it’s important to understand that Avalon and Two Harbors are practically towns apart from the island, though they are relatively small in size. The best way to search for new events is to look up the official websites of both areas. Nevertheless, we know most of the popular events happening year round.
Let’s start with some of the past events on the island. The island has welcomed running benefits, dances and art festivals. Some of the most popular annual events include the Annual Conservancy Ball, the Annual Rubber Ducky Derby and the Catalina Island Rugby Festival. The summer months bring along the Annual Flying Fish Festival in June and the Annual Church Mouse Marlin Invitational in August. In between there’s the 4th of July Parade, Fireworks Display and Dinner at the Casino Ballroom.
Autumn welcomes the Annual Festival of Art, the Catalina Island Women’s Forum Wine Festival and the Karaoke Halloween Costume Party. Towards the end of the year, visitors and residents can enjoy the Catalina Island JazzTrax Festival. This weekend event features 30 different smooth jazz stars. It’s hard to top the Annual New Year's Eve Celebration in Casino Ballroom, so no wonder the city keeps the best show for the end of the year.
Heading over into Avalon, the Avalon Ball is very interesting, as it recreates the big band scene of the roaring 20s. In Two Harbors, you will immediately notice the town’s emphasis on holidays. Every year celebrations are thrown for Easter and Cinco de Mayo. June and October are perhaps the most enjoyable festivities as they involve dress up and plenty of pirate décor.
Come see Santa Catalina Island! Whether you like public dancing, group activities or cookouts, there is always something happening the whole year round!
